RE: Gas At Safeway

Naw. You will just get the discount on a larger number of fillups, not on a single purchase. Also, the Safeway in Farmington,NM just told us they were dropping the incentive. Bummer, I really looked forward getting that 10 cents off.

RE: How many miles do you drive in a year?

Around 3,500 to 4,000 sounds about like what we do. Half of that in one trip, and then as many weekends as we can to our fav. local spot.

Love the story, and yeah, that's why we camp. Gonna feed another pound of peanuts to the squirrels in our fav local CG this weekend.

RE: Need help on 5th Wheel Clearance

Also saw a custom subframe on a Sprinter the other day behind an old lifted Ford. Guess I would worry about the same things, capacity on tires/rims, high center of gravity with the 5er, and overhead clearance. If you have those covered, have fun.
<---Old and crummy knees. Pickup is as high as I can handle. :B

RE: To cover or not to cover....

Adding one more voice to what has been already said. You have to look at your area and weather to decide whether to cover. Where I am, no covers, sand and wind just act like sandpaper.

RE: Stopping at Cracker Barrel

Stopped at a CB a few weeks back in Abq., not only had RV parking, but a new dealer in the area was showing off a new diesel pusher in the parking lot. Took the walk through, and DW got her CB oatmeal (she thinks they are the best). Made for a really nice stop, but do agree some of their RV parking is chiseled out of not enough parking lot.

RE: Who's driving the furthest this summer?

Ok, now I feel like a whiner. We already did our long trip for the summer to beat rising fuel prices; Branson,MO and back, right at 2k miles.

RE: 550 from Durango to Silverton

Lived on both sides of the passes, and drive them regularly. There is currently work being done on the North side of Coal Bank, and it's one lane with portable stop lights set up. Last few years, the State has done a lot of work on the North side of Molas, but other than wayyy back when the put the snowshed on the Ouray side of Red Mtn., that piece of road looks the same as it did 30 years ago. I never have had problems pulling my 5er over the passes, and agree it is one of the most beautiful areas of CO. I will take Lizard head if slides are running on the Red, or as a couple years ago, Coal Bank Hill was closed several times during heavy snows. If all else fails one can head out through Slickrock. I actually feel with the prevalence of diesels in RV's, going over the passes on 550 is much easier today than it was 20 years ago. You don't get stuck behind that laboring gasser at 5mph near as much, and the Idarado mine has closed so no more loaded ore trucks heading North down Red Mtn. pass.

RE: Need Suggestions oncampgrounds in Branson MO

We stayed at Cooper Creek CG when we did the Branson thing just before Memorial Day. Loved the CG, right on the lake, quiet, and handy to attraction.

Gotta be the portal. Coming in through Goodsam doesn't act abnormally. I am thinking it's TLdirectory's beta.

I am entering through the TrailerLife Directory, which is also beta'ing a new format. Yes, I have checked whether I am set to go to the newest response, but wow, this takes me clear down into a white blank world I never knew existed.

RE: Route from Durango, CO to I25-Colorado Springs

I've got a Jayco 30'/6500 lb towable behind a RAM2500 Hemi (not a Diesel). We'll be going the opposite way - CO Springs to Durango. Any suggesations for a route without the 11000 foot pass? I'm really not keen on taking that route. Time isn't critical.
Head South on I25 to I40 West to Gallup North on 491 to Cortez East on 160. There is an 8000 or so pass near Trinidad.
hpk
Don't have to go quite that far. I-25 South to 550 at Bernalillo (just North of Abq.). 550 North to Durango. No problemo. But man, you really add to your timeline. Sure a pass or two is out of the question?

RE: RVing in North Central New Mexico

While Chama is gorgeous, I haven't had an update on the grocery store issue either. Road across the Jicarilla to Chama is way too rough so I have been making all business trips to Sante Fe by way of 550 down to I-25. I think I would really take a look at Pagosa if 'twer me. Not that far to either historic railroad, either Cumbres Toltec, or Durango Silverton. BTW, Durango Silverton RR is cheaper by far. Plus, Pagosa has the hotsprings pools, a dandy golf course at Pagosa Fairfield, good fishing, and access to really high country if you want to cool off (have been snowed on in the San Juans late July, and got snowed on last weekend over Molas Pass, just a shower).

RE: Recent Site Issues

Don't know if the problem is with the Portal I use, or the forum, but when opening a thread, it takes me to the bottom of each page instead of the top. Mildly confusing to open a page and view a blank page (till you scroll up)
